An Alternate Landscape

Works in the exhibition

Landscape art in Canada is seemingly inextricably linked to the legacy of the Group of Seven painters, whose romantic depictions still come to dominate conversations around the genre. This group exhibition ‘An Alternate Landscape’ presents works by artists who take landscape as an all the more conceptual subject within their practices, responding to urban sprawl as well as rural locations, virtually constructed environments, google maps, dystopian visions, climate change, artificiality and tourist photography. The exhibition’s title touches on the varying modes of landscape present within the show, whilst also identifying the rapidly shifting world – environmental, political, technological – that we inhabit.
